Welcome to the 30th Anniversary
Yukon Learn PGI Tournament for Literacy!
Tournament Update
Since 1992, the Yukon Learn Society has hosted the annual Play Golf Invitational Tournament for Literacy, formerly known as the Peter Gzowski Invitational.
This year’s event is a very special one— Yukon Learn is celebrating its 30th anniversary hosting the PGI tournament in honour of Peter Gzowski. One of Canada’s most beloved broadcasters and former host of CBC Radio’s Morningside, Peter devoted the last 16 years of his life to raising awareness of adult literacy issues. It has been our pleasure to continue Peter’s legacy, and we send thanks to the many generous Yukon businesses, organizations and individuals who have sponsored the event and helped to raise over $800,000 in funds over the past three decades. All these funds are invested in free literacy programs across the Yukon, resulting in improved service and access to education for everyone.
To commemorate the 30th anniversary, this year’s theme will be our Pearl Tournament. Pearls are symbolic of Yukon Learn’s growth— like a pebble in an oyster’s mouth to a precious gemstone, Yukon Learn has grown substantially since our humble beginnings in 1983, in learners, volunteers, and free adult literacy programming across the territory. We are celebrating this feat by introducing a new sponsorship level, the Pearl Sponsor, created for those who want to help honour this exciting landmark.
We invite you to keep the spirit of Peter Gzowski alive. Pitch in for literacy this summer at the Mountain View Golf Club. Enjoy a fun-filled and prize-packed day of golfing, all in support of Yukon adults facing barriers and challenges with literacy.
