Teeing Up for Literacy: The 29th annual Yukon Learn Play Golf Invitational (PGI) Tournament for Literacy Unites the Greens and the Books in a Remarkable Quest for Education!

[Whitehorse, May 23, 2023, Press Release] – Prepare to embark on an extraordinary journey where golf meets literacy, as the 29th annual Yukon Learn Play Golf Invitational (PGI) Tournament descends upon the breathtaking Mountain View Golf Club on Saturday, June 3. This remarkable event, hosted by Yukon Learn, a non-profit literacy organization based in Whitehorse, is set to captivate golf enthusiasts and literacy advocates alike, all while supporting the mission of empowering Yukon adults with vital literacy skills for success.

For nearly three decades, the PGI Tournament has remained a steadfast symbol of philanthropy with a powerful message of knowledge, opportunity, and growth. This year, as the Yukon Learn Play Golf Invitational reaches its milestone 29th edition, we invite golfers, sponsors, and community leaders to come together in a show of solidarity, fostering a future where literacy thrives and individuals can unlock their true potential.

Yukon Learn, a grassroots non-profit organization, has been tirelessly working to provide free literacy programs and services for adults across the Yukon since 1983. By participating in the PGI Tournament, golfers and sponsors become an integral part of this transformative journey, empowering individuals with the skills they need to excel in the realms of reading, writing, numeracy, digital literacy, problem-solving, communication, creativity and innovation, collaboration, and adaptability.

On the sprawling fairways of Mountain View Golf Club, players will immerse themselves in the camaraderie and excitement of this highly anticipated event. As the breathtaking landscapes provide a stunning backdrop, golfers will navigate the course, demonstrating their skills while raising crucial funds for Yukon Learn's invaluable literacy initiatives. With every swing, they will make a tangible impact, shaping the lives of individuals and fostering a culture of lifelong learning.

“There are so many ways to have fun and pitch in for literacy,” Executive Director, Julie Anne Ames said. “Beer-pong is back again this year (sponsored by Yukon Brewing), as is the marshmallow long-drive contest (sponsored by Boston Pizza Whitehorse). We also have a new event – Home Hardware will be hosting an oversized Jenga game at their hole. A delicious breakfast will be provided by Ricky’s and a tasty lunch will be provided by Boston Pizza. Klondike Kettle Korn will also be at the event, in case you need snacks! There will also be fantastic prizes and many wonderful items that have been contributed for our online silent auction.”

The very popular Cart Auction will start on May 26th this year and the Silent Auction is now live – you can check it out at www.32auctions.com/PGI2023

“Volunteers are always welcome,” Ms. Ames said. “Our volunteer orientation will be on Wednesday, May 31st, at 5:00 PM at the Yukon Learn office, which is at 301-309 Strickland Street. Please join us if you wish to volunteer. It’s always a lot of fun and a great way to pitch in for literacy.”

Join us on Saturday, June 3, at the prestigious Mountain View Golf Club, as we celebrate the indomitable spirit of the Yukon and its unwavering dedication to literacy. By participating in the PGI Tournament, you become an advocate for change, a catalyst for growth, and a champion of education.
